World famous upmarket department store Selfridges launched its new website this week. 18 months in the making and at cost of around £40 million the new site marks one of the largest investments ever made by a traditional high street retailer in the online arena.
With consumers rapidly migrating to mobile devices to buy online, particular attention was paid to how the site adapts to smartphones and tablets. Other features include curated content and extra prominence to user generated content from social media.
With the addition of over 100 new brands, including products by Burberry, Bruno Cucinelli and Victoria Beckham, Selfridges hopes the new mobile friendly ‘responsive’ website will future proof its multi channel business for years to come.
